Reasons To Book With Wild Earth

On the morning of Tuesday 13th September the Alexis Creek RCMP received a call from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC)  regarding a 911 GPS personal locator call in the area of Mount Lowwa, a very remote location southwest of Tatlayoko Lake in the Homathko River Tatlayoko Protected Area (in the heart of the Coast Mountain Range in British Columbia near Bella Coola).

Once within the area of the search, a CCSAR member made local inquiries discovering there were four Austrian or German tourists who had been dropped off to kayak the Homathko River and that these folks had arranged to be picked up on Thursday at a predetermined location.

“With the added floods, a lot of the rivers in that area were hit incredibly hard,”  says Sage Birchwater who has spent a great deal of time in the air over this area recently while conducting research for his book “Cariboo Chilcotin Flyover: The Aviation Legacy of the Cariboo Chilcotin Central Coast” which he is writing with local photographer Chris Harris. “ Just because someone was down there last year, doesn’t mean they could expect the same this year.  The impact the weather event last year had on the terrain with log jams and slides has been massive. It’s a precarious event at the best of times.”

Another reason to book a safe guided adventure with Wild Earth Adventures or any of our partner suppliers along the west coast of British Columbia. The Coast Mountain Range is one of the remoter and least explored of the mountains in North America, providing many excellent adventure opportunities and best served by experienced locally based operators.
